Scarisbrick Hall First School is a happy, family school located in the stunning Scaribrick Hall Estate. The First School provides an exceptional start in life for pupils age 3 – 9. In our most recent ISI inspection the report commented that a “lively sense of purpose and a sense of enjoyment are supported by the excellent relationships that pupils enjoy with their teachers”.
In First School the curriculum covers all of the expected areas of the National Curriculum however, we move our pupils beyond this by offering a significantly enhanced experience of learning. As well as studying the core curriculum subjects our First School also has:
• A unique woodland learning environment
• Specialist teaching in languages, music and PE
• An extensive co-curricular programme with professional coaches
• Sporting opportunities to compete locally and nationally
• A truly personalised approach to learning that values each and every pupil
• Small class sizes (average 17 maximum 21, from Year 1)
We truly believe that we provide an exceptional education in a stunning and unique environment.

Curriculum
The First School curriculum supports the critical transition from Early Years to entry into the Middle School. The extensive curriculum is built on the core subject of: Literacy, Numeracy and Science however it extends far beyond this to include:
Creative Curriculum (Humanities focused)
Sport and PE*
Music*
Arts
Computer Science and ICT*
Woodland Learning
RE
PSHE / Wellbeing
Spanish*
(* Specialist teachers)
As well as the academic curriculum, we are proud of the ‘soft skills’ that our school develops in all of our pupils. Through exceptional behaviour, manners and traditional family values we feel confident that all of our students have the ability to excel and ‘stand out’ in a positive way.
At the end of every half term parents and pupils receive update reports where a progress grade is given to reflect both achievement and effort in their subjects. These results are sent home digitally via the parent portal. An interim report is given at the end of December (this includes targets and next steps) and a full written report is issued in hard copy at the end of the year.
A close system of academic tracking operates throughout the whole First School, with internal standardised assessments in reasoning, English, Mathematics, reading and spelling. These standardised tests complement our own traditional teacher assessments and give an accurate picture of the progress of each child
Co-Curricular
Scarisbrick Hall offers the most diverse and energising co-curricular programme of any school in the UK. With the support of professional coaches and specialist PE staff, pupils in First School are encouraged to develop their interests and skills outside the academic curriculum. With activities including: fencing, paddle boarding, sailing, athletics coaching, self-defence, yoga and many more. We are confident that we will find an activity that will spark the interests and enthusiasm of your children.
Prep/Homework
Homework is set regularly throughout the First School and increases as pupils reach the transition into Year 5. Pupils can expect to receive an extended writing and numeracy task every weekend as well as a reading activity.
