This term we have been very busy again! This time we have been finding out about oceans and seas. We have found out a little about the oceans of our world and the creatures that live there, from the smallest to the largest! We have also looked a t a couple of books associated with this topic – Dolphin Boy and The Whales’ Song. We wrote our own ideas about riding a dolphin and letters from the whales to Lilly who they had danced for. It was fun! We have also had a go at some art work and have enjoyed using crayons, pastels, paint and even pencil to create our own ocean pictures. Our latest task was to make rafts! We had to design them and then build them. We used lolly sticks, straws and wooden skewers; it was great fun! When we raced them, some sank but it was really the way we blew on them – Miss Whitehouse said we had built them very well.
In Year 2 we love our Maths lessons and we have been looking at working out problems, more addition and subtraction, weighing, money and fractions when we had to eat sweets and cakes!!
We are working hard in our Literacy lessons too! We try to make sure we use correct punctuation and more describing words to make our work more interesting. Many of us are using linking words too to make longer sentences. We are getting there!
Of course we have been trying hard to learn our words for the songs in the First School Production too.
Chinese New Year Meal
Many of us enjoyed the special Chinese New Year meal last month. Some of us even tried to use chopsticks! It was fun seeing some of the food being prepared too. We hope there may be other meals from other countries some time!
Year 2 Trip
Our day started with a train journey. It was fun spotting the names of each station! We had a little walk to the Museum and saw lots of interesting buildings on the way.
The Aquarium was full of amazing fish! Some of the colours were really lovely and very bright. We saw lots of different corals too which we have been learning about. We answered questions as we went around.
We had a talk about the creatures of a rockpool and were even able to touch the crabs, anemones and starfish! We dazzled the man with our knowledge and questions too!
The real adventure started when we got on the train to return to school. After sitting on it for 15 minutes we were told it wouldn’t be moving so we needed to get off! There followed an anxious wait and travel on a very busy, crowded train but in the end we were not too late! Miss Whitehouse said we all behaved very well and made it easier to cope with the changes in the journey.
