The first half term was spent learning all about Robots. We all loved this topic, carrying out lots of exciting activities. In Literacy we studied the story of The Iron Man, which was brilliant! The class produced some excellent writing, and really developed our use of similes and metaphors to help add description. We also wrote some fantastic news reports about Scarisbrick Hall being invaded by an army of robots! To help with this we took photographs of robots around school; by taking the pictures from close up we made them appear larger than they actually were!
Also during the Robot topic we produced some fantastic art work; we looked at the styles of artists such as Andy Warhol and Eric Joyner, and created work using their style. We really enjoyed this.
Designing a ‘Robot of the Future’ was a favourite activity, with many of the children creating a robot which would help around the home – one which would help do their homework for them proved to be an extremely popular idea!
In the second half of the term Year 4 have been learning all about ‘Mighty Mountains’. We have discovered where the largest mountain ranges are located, as well as learning about the largest mountains in the world. Part of our work has also involved researching famous mountaineers, and learning about what it is actually like to climb one of these large mountains. We have enjoyed finding out about the hazards involved in climbing, and have produced a ‘safety guide’ for potential mountaineers!
World Book Day
For World Book day, the class really enjoyed sharing the bedtime stories which they had brought in from home, and particularly enjoyed reading to the Reception Class children. This was really lovely to see both sets of children enjoying books together.
Also this term Year 4 have been supported by three trainee teachers from Edge Hill University. Year 4 would like to thank Miss Russell, Miss Jeffrey and Miss Burdaky for all their hard work with the class this term.
